Rural People Turn to Satellite Broadband Amidst Rising Fuel Cost

Rural people are increasingly turning to broadband Internet in response to the rising fuel cost, according to Farmside. “Many of our new customers are citing the rising fuel cost as one of the main reasons for getting the IPSTAR broadband satellite. Emergency communications to find missing tramper provided by IPSTAR

On June 3, 2008, Wellington Land Search and Rescue (WLSAR) received a report that a Polish tourist tramper had not returned for the past 3 days from a day trek in the Rimutaka Forest Park, New Zealand. Urgently within that day, the Hutt Valley Emergency Management Office (HVEMO) was contacted to provide communication equipment, and other assistance and services for the search operation. The team immediately deployed IPSTAR at the HVEMO headquarters and in the forest park.

Xigou Station Enhances Weather Reporting as Telephony System Upgraded to IPSTAR-Based VoIP

China Satcom, one of the leading telecommunication operators in China and partner of IPSTAR, connected a weather station in Xigou to VoIP via IPSTAR. The newly installed satellite-based VoIP enhances the telephony system in the station. Built in 1958, the weather station is situated in the outskirts of Urumqi, the capital city of Xinjiang Uyghur in China.
