Rocket Broadband Makes Stud Farm Business Much Easier

For Chanelle Manion, juggling a busy radio career with stud farming has been much easier and less time-consuming – thanks to Farmside's Rocket Broadband Internet service.

“The Internet serves as my main source of enquiries, so I need a fast and reliable connection to run the farm alongside my full-time job. With Rocket Broadband via IPSTAR, I am able to increase the efficiency and flexibility of my part-time business. Now, I can respond to website queries promptly and complete multiple transactions quickly”, she said.

The Situation

Chanelle works as a full-time Radio Network Traffic Manager, and together with her husband, they manage a 15-acre stud farm in Taumarunui. The farm is permanently advertised at the NZ Pinto Society and NZ Stallion websites. “Because we are reasonably isolated, word of mouth gradually dies off – so we are using the Internet to bump up the farm's advertisement. Without broadband Internet access, reaching our target market effectively would be almost impossible”, she added.

Like many rural residents in most parts of New Zealand, Chanelle was using a slow dial-up service before connecting to Rocket Broadband. “With dial-up, we could not even get our online account balances”, she said.

Now with high speed Internet, Chanelle is able to do online transactions which were previously impossible with dial-up. “Every time customers request for photos of our horses, we are able to upload the files immediately. I recently had a chance to test my IPSTAR satellite broadband connection by sending out multiple video clips of a horse we had for sale. With approximately 10 MB in total size, the buyer was able to receive all 5 emails without any mishap. Having Rocket Broadband makes the whole business transaction smoother for me and the customer”, she informed.

Chanelle added, “Farmside's Rocket Broadband is the solution to our previous Internet woes with dial-up. We can now relax and be confident of getting all the bills paid online without losing the Internet connection. We also have more freedom to use the Internet and to surf online auctions – instead of being restricted to virtually email-only use on dial-up”.

“Keeping the phone line free for incoming and outgoing calls is an added bonus too. It is nice to know that we can be online for a long period of time without missing any call that may come in”, Chanelle emphasized.
